Summer events on Hilton Head Island

It might not technically be summer yet, but it sure feels like summer in the Lowcountry! If you’re new here, Hilton Head Island really comes to life this time of year. There are so many fun summer (and late spring) events! Check them out in our list below:

Live Music at Sea Pines Restaurants — All Spring & Summer Long 

Looking for live music? Check out three of Sea Pines Resorts restaurants — Quarterdeck, Harbourside, and Coast, Oceanfront Dining — for live music nightly from 4-7 p.m.

Music & Taste on the Harbour — Thursdays, May 12 & 19

Enjoy this free outdoor concert series from 6-9 p.m. on Thursdays May 12 and 19 at Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina! The series features local bands, and local restaurants will serve specially priced appetizers and drinks.

HH4Ukraine Benefit — Sunday, May 22

The Town of Hilton Head Island, the Hilton Head Island Rec Center, Hilton Head Island Music and Arts Coalition, and many amazing volunteers are rallying together for this humanitarian cause.

Celebrate the spirit and generosity of Hilton Head Island at the HH4Ukraine Benefit on May 22, 2022 at Lowcountry Celebration Park on Pope Ave! The event starts at noon and will include classical music, choirs, a dance performance, special speakers, live bands and more.

Proceeds will be donated to the Ukraine Relief Fund administered by the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry to support organizations assisting with relief efforts in Ukraine.

Hilton Head Island Art Festival — May 28 & 29

The Hilton Head Island Art Festival is a weekend of art, shopping, dining, and entertainment! Held at Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina, the event will feature the work of artists in various mediums — including pottery, glass, wood, jewelry, metal, painting, photography and much more. 

The festival will take place along the harbour and marina promenade, inviting visitors to browse our talented artisans and shop and dine along the marina. Admission is free! Check it out on Saturday, May 28, from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., and Sunday, May 29, from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. The event will be held rain or Shine.

Gregg Russell Summer Concerts — All Summer Long, Starting May 27

Sea Pines Resort’s favorite family-friendly summer tradition is Gregg Russell’s Summer Concerts under the Live Oak tree! Renowned for his interactive sing-alongs, the Hilton Head Island icon will take the stage below the famed Sea Pines Liberty Oak starting on May 27 - Labor Day Weekend.

Harbourfest — All Summer Long, Starting Memorial Day Weekend

Harbourfest is Shelter Cove Harbour’s signature summer event. There are fireworks on select Tuesdays (and the 4th of July!), live music & entertainment, arts & crafts, kids’ activities and more! 

This year’s Hilton Head Harbourfest will feature beloved Cappy the Clown, singer/songwriter Shannon Tanner, a Jimmy Buffet tribute band & so much more family-friendly entertainment.

Hilton Head Freedom 5K — May 30

The 7th Annual Hilton Head Freedom 5K will be held at the beautiful Port Royal Plantation on Hilton Head Island on Memorial Day, May 30. 

This race is a great opportunity to honor those among us who have served in the armed forces with a fun, family friendly event. Dress in your patriotic best and enjoy one of Lowcountry’s most scenic courses on Hilton Head Island.

Sea Turtle Talks — Every Monday from June-August

Join the Hilton Head Island Sea Turtle Patrol every Monday from June through August (except July 4) for a free Sea Turtle Talk! Learn about the nesting Sea Turtles on Hilton Head’s beaches, and how you can help to protect this endangered species.  

The talks are led by Sea Turtle Patrol Hilton Head Island’s Marine Biologist Amber Kuehn, SCDNR Permit Holder for Hilton Head Island.  Turtle talks will be held rain or shine. Please bring a chair or blanket to sit on.

Summer Jams — Tuesdays, June14 - August 9

Head to Shelter Cove Towne Center for the Summer Jams outdoor concert series, starting June 14 and going through August 9 (a special Monday night concert will be held on the 4th of July).

This concert series is sponsored by the Island Recreation Association and are family-focused: Expect a fun-filled, festive atmosphere where kids of all ages can enjoy inflatable bounce houses and face painting for a minimal fee. Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy the fireworks, starting each night around 9 p.m.! The events kick off each Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Movie Nights — Thursdays, June 16 - August 18

Bring the kids to a free movie night in the park at Shelter Cove Towne Centre every Thursday, beginning at 8:30 p.m. Just like with the concert series, bring lawn chairs or blankets, pick up food to-go from the local restaurants or Kroger, and enjoy the free movies on the lawn! All movies are family-friendly, and pets are welcome.

Juneteenth Celebration — Saturday, June 18

Celebrate Juneteenth at Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park. The celebration will include food, art, live music and more. Buy tickets here.

Sunset Celebrations — Fridays, June 24 - August 19

Another outdoor concert series at Shelter Cove Towne Centre, the Sunset Celebration provides live, local music starting at 7 p.m. on Friday nights. Bring a beach chair or blanket and pick up take-out food from one of the local restaurants or Kroger. Coolers and pets are welcome!

These concerts are free to attend and sponsored by the Shelter Cove Towne Centre merchants.

Party in the Park + Maker’s Fair — Thursdays, June 23 - July 28

Head to Lowcountry Celebration Park on Thursday evenings from 5:30-8:30 p.m. for the Party in the Park and Maker’s Fair. Hosted by the Island Rec Center, this event includes a family happy hour with live music, bounce houses, and beverages. There will also be a Maker's Fair with local artists.

Family Fun Day — Wednesday, August 10

Head to the Coastal Discovery Museum from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, August 10 for their annual Family Fun Day. 

Each year the Coastal Discovery Museum celebrates the end of summer and start of the school year with a FREE Family Fun Day. It’s a must for families of all ages! Explore Honey Horn and learn about the Lowcountry from Museum volunteers and community partners. Learn more here.
