It’s almost Fall, y’all! What Hilton Head has in store for you.

For many, Fall is a favorite time of year on the island. Why? 

The days are slightly cooler — but can still reach 80 degrees — and the island is a little less crowded. Fall is also the season of oyster roasts, bonfires and a ton of fun events on Hilton Head Island. 

Here’s what’s happening on Hilton Head Island this September and October:

Music & Taste on the Harbour 

When: Select Thursdays, September 8 - October 20, from 6-9 p.m.

Where: Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina

This pet-friendly outdoor concert series held near the Neptune statue at Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina features local bands, food & drinks. Local restaurants will be set up at the event and offer a variety of specially-priced light appetizers, wine, beer and cocktails (no outside food or beverages are allowed). You’re encouraged to bring your own chairs.

Sea Pines Beach Sweep

When: September 16, from 2-3 p.m.

Where: Sea Pines Beach Club

Head to the Sea Pines Beach Club on September 16 to join in on the state’s largest organized beach cleanup! Conducted annually since 1988, the sweep takes place in conjunction with the International Coastal Cleanup, coordinated by the Ocean Conservancy. Volunteers are welcome. Please contact The Sea Pines Resort Recreation Department at (843) 842-1979 to volunteer.

Hilton Head Island Shrimp Festival

When: September 24, from 1-4 p.m.

Where: Harbour Town in Sea Pines Resort

The Hilton Head Island Shrimp Festival is an annual family-friendly event featuring shrimp dishes by local chefs, craft beers and various other goods from local vendors. 

There’s also live music and a “Kid’s Zone” with a bounce house, face painting, arts & crafts and more.

Tickets are $75 for adults 21+ and $50 for attendees under 21 and non-drinkers. Children 8 and younger are free. Tickets include all-you-can-eat-shrimp (while supplies last) prepared by local chefs, as well as beer samples from more than 14 breweries for ticket holders 21 and older. Beer, wine and other beverages also will be available for purchase.

Harbour Town Fall Fest 

When: September 25, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Where: Harbour Town in Sea Pines Resort

Celebrate the new season with Harbour Town’s Fall Fest! The event will include a sidewalk sale, a classic car display by the Carolina Dreamers Car Club. a live music performance by local band Deas-Guyz, various children’s activities, watersports, tours and boat rides, dining on the harbour and more. 

Hounds on the Harbour 

When: October 1, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Where: Harbour Town in Sea Pines Resort

Bring Fido for a fun day on the Harbour! This dog-friendly event will feature raffles, DJ Alan Palchak, various dog activities including a pupcake walk, and more! The Hilton Head Humane Association will also have dogs available for adoption at the event. 

The Lowcountry Fish & Grits Music Festival 

When: October 1, from 1-6 p.m.

Where: Lowcountry Celebration Park

Celebrate the Gullah Geechee culture at the first annual Lowcountry Fish & Grits Music Festival! The festival, which will be held in the new Lowcountry Celebration Park near Coligny Beach, is meant to “bring awareness to the rich Gullah Geechee culture and its connection to the African diaspora by showcasing great musical talent and local cuisine.”

It will feature a diverse mix of musical acts including folk, funk, jazz, spoken word, R&B and more — including Latrese Bush, Votte Hall, Angela Bonaparte and Company, Gwen Yvette, Frankie Quiñones, Vascola Stoney, Louise Cohen and more.

The festival will also feature a market where Lowcountry Gullah Geechee vendors will be selling traditional foods, art, clothing and more!

Annual Kiwanis Club Chili Cook Off & Jeep Island 

When: October 8, from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Where: The Coastal Discovery Museum

This annual charity event includes a chili cook off where locals compete to win a cash prize donation to the charity of their choice, the Jeep Island event which showcases Jeeps from across the country, live music, a kids’ zone, concessions and more! 

Tickets are $10 and additional tasting tickets for the chili cookoff are available for $1 each.

2022 Crescendo Celebration 

When: October 8 - November 14

Where: Various locations

This annual event celebration arts, culture and history on Hilton Head Island. Lasting for over a month, it includes various arts and cultural events, theatrical performances, museum and gallery exhibits, lectures, dance performances, historical tours, hands-on art experiences, and more. 

Featured events include:

The annual kick-off party for Crescendo at Shelter Cove Community Park features local musicians, dancers, story-tellers and local artisans. Local arts & culture organizations will have booths and there will be live painting, wine and beer, and door prizes. It’s a great event to celebrate National Arts & Humanities Month on Hilton Head Island!

Enjoy a classic rock ‘n roll weekend featuring BBQ, the people who make it and the people who eat it. Held at Coligny, the two-day event will feature concerts by Blues Traveler, Angie Aparo, and Cranford Hollow. There will be BBQ from 15 world renowned pitmasters.

  • Innova Latin Music Festival at Shelter Cove Community Park, Oct. 16

The 10th Latin Music Festival is set for Sunday, October 16, 2022 at Shelter Cove Community Park. La Isla Magazine hosts this Latin party from noon to 9:00 p.m.  Tickets are $10; kids 12 and under are free. 

Island Rec Center’s Pumpkin Patch 

When: October 21, from 4-7 p.m.

Where: Shelter Cove Community Park

Get the kids ready for Halloween with this free Island Rec Center event! The annual Pumpkin Patch will include free pumpkins, bounce houses and games. A train ride, concessions and tickets to climb a rock wall will also be available.

If the kids want to show off their costumes early, there’s also a Halloween Costume Contest at 5:45 p.m.!

2022 Italian Heritage Festival 

When: October 22, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Where: The Coastal Discovery Museum

This annual festival is a robust celebration of Italian culture with food and live entertainment. There’s a crowd-pleasing grape stomping contest, a pizza eating contest and a full slate of other activities for locals, visitors, and kids.

A number of booths will be dedicated to traditional Italian foods, such as cheeses, breads, pasta, fish, meatballs, sausage and calzones, and delicious sweets, including Italian ice, gelato, biscotti and zeppolis – many sponsored by local restaurants. There’s also a silent auction featuring an extensive selection of gift certificates to golf foursomes at our world-famous courses, area restaurants, boat cruises, spa visits, and of course, gift baskets, and a wide range of crafts, gifts, and art works on which to bid.

The event is held rain or shine! Tickets are $10/person; kids 10 and under are free.

6th Annual Gullah Food Festival

When: October 29, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Where: The Gullah Museum of Hilton Head Island

The Gullah Museum of Hilton Head hosts this annual festival to maintain Gullah customs, traditions, language, stories, songs and structures on Hilton Head Island. The event includes Gullah storytellers, Gullah music, Gullah songs, community speakers, face painting, food vendors and Gullah games & story books for children. 

It’s a rain or shine event! Admission is $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for ages 5-16.
