Fun ways to celebrate the New Year on Hilton Head Island

Can you believe it’s almost 2022?!

If you’re an island resident or booked a trip to Hilton Head Island to celebrate the New Year, we’ve got a few ideas for you!

Events (Adults Only):

While the island certainly isn’t a big city, our islanders still know how to celebrate. Here are a few events you can check out:

The Rooftop Bar — New Year’s Eve Masquerade

Ring in the New Year at Hilton Head’s favorite late-night venue!

The Rooftop Bar at Poseidon is hosting a New Year’s Eve Masquerade. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the event will feature two DJs.

General admission tickets are $20, and include a glass of champagne.

VIP and hotel packages are also available here.

This event is open to adults age 21 and up only.

Harbour Town’s New Year’s Eve Celebration

An island favorite, Sea Pines’ Harbour Town hosts an annual NYE celebration that includes a ball drop from the top of the famous Harbour Town Lighthouse, food vendors, live music and more.

To accommodate families, this celebration includes two ball drops: One at 7 p.m., and another at midnight.

For more information, click here or call The Sea Pines Resort Recreation Department at (843) 842-1979.

Beach House NYE Party

Hilton Head Island’s Beach House Hotel + Tiki Hut Bar are throwing their annual NYE bash.

Kick 2021 to the curb with your island friends! The party will feature three of your favorite local bands — Chris Jones, The Bastard Sons, and Silicone Sisters — plus party bites and, of course, the beachfront bar.

Hotel packages including tickets to the party are available, or you can just buy a ticket for $135.

Event is open to ages 21 and up. The party starts at 6 p.m. and ends at 1 a.m. on New Year’s Day.

Family-friendly NYE ideas:

20th Annual Polar Bear Swim @ Harbour Town

Have one last adventure of 2021! Join the other “polar bears” at 10 a.m. on New Year’s Eve and go for a plunge in the Harbour Town pool!

Hot chocolate and other refreshments will be available to warm you up after your chilly swim.

Relax in your own vacation rental

Why not spend the New Year on the beach? Book a vacation rental and spend the holiday relaxing with your family and/or friends.

Have a bonfire or oyster roast

Does anything say “Lowcountry” more than a New Year’s Eve oyster roast? We don’t think so.

To make it more kid-friendly, add a bonfire where the kiddos can roast hot dogs and make smores. Don’t forget the sparkling grape juice for a NYE toast!

Go see a Christmas light display before they’re turned off!

Most of the island’s displays turn off their lights after Dec. 31. So if you’re looking for something fun to do with kids on NYE, drive them around to look at lights!

(Want to add to the fun? Make a holiday snack kit! Pack some fruit, Christmas cookies, candy canes, hot chocolate … whatever your family’s favorite holiday treats are!)

Here’s a short list of some of the best light displays to get you started:
