Fall events on Hilton Head Island
Fall has always been one of our favorite times here in the Lowcountry. The weather is mild, the island is less crowded and it's one of the best times of the year for events. Here’s a look at what events to expect on Hilton Head Island that you won’t want to miss:
Both of these Island Recreation Association-sponsored events continue through mid-August.
Party in the Park
This concert series will be continued Thursdays August 5, 12 and 19 at Lowcountry Celebration Park from 5:30-8 p.m. The series features local musicians, bounce houses and refreshments.
This event is held at Shelter Cove Community Park on Tuesdays from 6-10:30 p.m. through August 17. The live music each night is followed by fireworks over the water at 9 p.m.
Another way to view the Tuesday night fireworks is at Harbourfest at Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina. The Tuesday night events (August 3, 10, 17) also feature live music and kids events.
This free event features family-friendly movies played outside in Shelter Cove Community Park from 8:30-10:30 p.m. on Thursday nights through August 19.
Enjoy live music Friday nights from 7-10 p.m. at Shelter Cove Community Park through August 20. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Pets are welcome.
The Hilton Head Island Wine & Food Festival is usually held every Spring, but this year it was pushed to the Fall. The event celebrates the fruits of global wine partnerships, signature Lowcountry cuisine, grassroots cultural happenings and the authentic fabric of a unique community. What unfolds is an inspiring series of events that draw guests to Hilton Head Island from not only across the country, but even from far corners of the globe.
This year’s festival will be held September 14-18. Events include:
A night at the movies at Park Plaza Cinemas! Delicious appetizers will be prepared by Rockfish as well as an array of wines to taste. The tasting and reception will start at 6 p.m. with the movie starting at 7 p.m.
Gather your friends for an evening of great wine and shopping at the new Sip and Stroll location, the lovely plaza of The Shops at Sea Pines Center. Meander through a wonderful collection of shops while sipping on amazing wines provided by the Hilton Head Wine & Food Festival.
Stay Gold will take place at sunset along the beautiful North Forest Beach, Hilton Head. The event will feature live music, Double Gold wines from our international Judging competition and delicious Lowcountry food pairings from the SC Dept. of Agriculture Chef Ambassadors.
This traditional tasting is the festival’s most exclusive celebration, featuring award-winning wines and an array of light hors d’oeuvres. The event will be held at the Country Club of Hilton Head.
The Public Tasting is the Festival’s largest event, celebrating the 36th anniversary of the Celebration Park. Come taste more than 250 wines from all over the world. Don't miss the chefs in action at the Sysco Outdoor Gourmet Challenge. Enjoy live entertainment and local craft beer at the new Beer Garden. Take some time to bid on award-winning wines at the Silent Auction where the proceeds support the John & Valerie Curry Scholarship fund. Doors open at 12 p.m. Wine poured from 12-3 p.m.
The Salty Dog at South Beach Marina has several September events, including:

Craft Beer & Burger Fest
Craft beer. Good food. Live music. Waterfront views. What more can you ask for? Check it out at 1 p.m. on Sat., Sept. 18.
The Salty Dog Wing & Chili Cookoff
A mouth-watering wing and chili cookoff where you get to be the judge! Held on the gorgeous docks of the Salty Dog’s South Bay Marina location starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 25.
Jeep Island is joining the Kiwani's Chili Cook-off for a day of chili, football on the big screen, live entertainment, Jeeps from all over the Southeast and much more. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Coastal Discovery Museum on Saturday, Oct. 9.
A classic Southern rock & roll weekend celebrating BBQ, the people who make it, and the people who eat it. Featuring live music by Angie Aparo. October 15-16 at Coligny Plaza.
The festival is a robust celebration of Italian culture with food and live entertainment. Back by popular demand is the crowd-pleasing grape stomping contest, along with a pizza eating contest! A number of booths will be dedicated to traditional Italian foods, such as cheeses, breads, pasta, fish, meatballs, sausage and calzones, and delicious sweets, including Italian ice, gelato, biscotti and zeppolis – many sponsored by local restaurants.
The Hilton Head Italian Heritage Festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, October 23 at The Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn – rain or shine. No pets please!
